Performance Artist / Author / Educator

Since 1995, performance artist, author, and educator Brian Shapiro has been

staging original productions that explore the human experience. Often

contemporary and at times controversial, Brian’s shows offer insights,

analysis, and opinions on subjects that include political, social, and personal

overtones. His productions typically incorporate live music, theater,

movement, and projected visual elements, as he tackles subjects of

technology, race, bias, human relations and workplace experience.

In his professional life, Brian has a professional development practice

that design and deliver organizational communication workshops, training

programs, and keynote presentations to organizations across multiple

industries. Clients include Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), PIDC,

Siemens, Do it Best Corp., IBM, and Comcast, to name a few. The author of

three books, “Exceptionally Human: Successful Communication in a

Distracted World”, “Exceptionally Human Communication Workbook”, and

“The Exceptionally Human Airport Experience”, Brian is also a faculty

member at the University of Pennsylvania’s Organizational Dynamics

program and an instructor at the Wharton School of Business

Communication Program. Brian attended a doctorate program in

Performance Studies at The University of Texas at Austin, and holds a BA

(San Diego State University) and MA (San Francisco State University) in

Communication Studies. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Brian, his wife,

and their two children currently live in Philadelphia’s Fairmount

neighborhood.
